Returning to the usual routine after the holidays, whether it be Christmas or summer, is undoubtedly challenging, both for adults and children.

Surely, to prepare yourself and your family mentally and physically to return to school or work, you started to gradually reintroduce daily routines a few days before, for example by setting a fixed time for bed and waking up, to make it easier for everybody to adapt to the school/work rhythm.

Involving children in the preparation (e.g. involving them in packing their schoolbags or shopping for scholastic material) can also make them more involved and motivated, because it makes them feel part of the process.

Furthermore, even having a simple chat with them, remembering the good times they had at school, highlighting the exciting aspects and the friends they will meet again, can certainly be an opportunity to stimulate their enthusiasm.

Have you ever thought that even a small surprise on the first day of school or the first week can make the experience more fun and less stressful?

And you? Have you done anything in particular to make the whole family's return to routine more serene?
