The school community is not only composed of the Management, teachers and students, but it also includes all the families who entrust us with their children’s education every day.
To be precise, even our Constitution states that the school and the family are both in charge of the education of young people at the same time.
It is right that parents participate in school life and contribute to changes on different levels and it is precisely for this reason that the parents’ representative is a pivotal figure in the structure of the school bodies, which render a real service to the community.
His/her role, basically, consists in acting as an intermediary for an entire school year between the parents he/she represents and the school, through meetings, discussions and collaboration with all the parties involved.
The representative is, in fact, the spokesperson for the families who, through him/her, communicate their proposals, opinions, concerns or needs to the school. This mediation also provides for the emergency circulation of information, notices, requests and authorizations in both directions.
Similarly, the representative may collaborate with the secretary’s office also on a practical level, for example in the collection of any documents or authorizations necessary for extracurricular events and the like.
In order to perform this task in the best possible way, in addition to knowing the school regulations, the representative must keep himself/herself updated on what is happening at the school, attending a few meetings and reporting noteworthy communications to the other families.
It goes without saying that maintaining a fluid relationship between the families and the school would be impossible without the parents’ representative. This commitment also constitutes a social responsibility with an important educational value, which also guarantees the well-being of the students and contributes to the overall school success.
